Razia is a 25 year old student who currently attends Michigan State University (MSU) in Dubai, where she is studying for a Masters in Human Resources & Labour Relations. Prior to this, Razia completed her Bachelors in Media Sciences from the University of SZABIST.
As an international student, Razia flies to and from Dubai to study at MSU, a testament to the high level of qualifications offered by the University. When asked why she chose MSU for her Masters, Razia stated:
“The recommendation for MSU came from a good friend back home. This Masters programme is ranked quite extraordinarily in terms of overall rankings. In terms of HR, MSU is rated as one of the top 10 universities in the US. Upon further research, the program’s focused framework, curriculum, placement rates and reviews endorsed my decision to apply to MSU. The convenience of a campus being close by in Dubai was just the icing on the cake.”
The choice of a Masters in Human Resources and Labour Relations was made by Razia as she believes in the international reach of this degree.
“MSU’s long standing reputation with this program, its thorough practical course offerings, global perspective and the burgeoning scope of the growing HR industry all contributed to influencing me to take this course. The HR sector gives one an insight of how to manage people and resources. It is the one area where managing a win-win situation for all is imperative.”
Making the move to Dubai for Razia was an important decision, however she has embraced Dubai and does not regret her decision to move here. “Dubai is a home away from home. It is a tremendously diverse environment with different ages and ethnicities which provides exceptional friends, a vast pool of cultural differences and global understanding. The city never sleeps and the learning never ends.”
Razia enjoys being part of the DIAC community; she believes that being part of a group of diverse students from multiple ethnicities will prepare her for the global workforce in the future.
Once she finishes her degree, Razia hopes to apply to a large –scale multinational and join as an HR manager. Eventually, she would like to work for the United Nations.
When not studying at MSU, Razia enjoys reading, music and travelling. Prior to her coming to Dubai, she worked for 2 years as a Marketing Manager at AEHJ in Pakistan, as well as being awarded for being a volunteer in the Karach Lions Club in 2005 and 2011.
When asked whom she admires the most, Razia replied “From Buddha to Steve Jobs, my former boss- to my dad- there are many exceptional people that have truly inspired me as leaders in their own right. Yet a person who has obliviously impacted me to strive harder, be morally strong and instilled in me deep rooted values and principles is someone I admire the most, my mother. When I see myself in Dubai studying at the prestigious MSU, I don't see it happening without her. She is sympathetic, strong and always putting others above her own interests. She has beauty with brains, is a leader and is an inspiration to those around her.”
