Vivek Parpia is a 21 year old Indian student from Heriot Watt University, studying a BA in Accounting & Finance.

Vivek was born and raised in Dubai and attended The Indian High School. He is also the co-founder of a youth group called “The Republic”, which organises student events across Dubai.

As an accomplished event organizer, Vivek assisted the Student Hub team with the launch of the Week of Welcome, 2011. He helped create the branding concept and was available throughout the event to assist in such activities as DIAC’s got talent, the DIAC Movie night and the orientation ceremony.

When asked why he chose Heriot Watt, Vivek replied, “I was planning to do my higher studies here in Dubai and was looking for universities. I had heard of Heriot Watt and a lot of friends and family recommended this college to me. I came here and checked the campus and liked it and also saw how prestigious the degree is, which contributed to my final decision.”

The choice of a BA in Accounting & Finance was attributed to Vivek’s proficiency with numbers from an early age. “I have always been good with account and numbers from School. I have been helping my granddad in finance from an early age. I have spent all my vacations from the age of 8 helping him at his shop and this was one of the major reasons I decided to pursue this degree.”

Vivek enjoys being a student in Dubai and believes it is an experience unlike any other. He believes that interacting with students from various nationalities and having students from all around the world makes Dubai a very special place to study.

When asked about the benefits of being a DIAC student, Vivek is quick to list the benefits of being part of such a large campus. “The recreation room is a great source of entertainment for the students, and it helps us unwind. The fact that DIAC is a cluster of universities also adds to the exposure, where we meet new people almost on a daily basis. I also find myself enjoying university life as a whole and will definitely miss these days later on.”

Away from his studies, Vivek likes to play Table Tennis and Foosball, as well as organising events for The Republic.

Vivek hopes that his degree at DIAC will allow him to become an asset to a large corporation as a leading financial advisor.

When asked whom he admires the most, Vivek replied “I admire my grandfather because the way he taught me to live happily with what you have in life and to always be happy.”
