University of Birmingham enhances student engineering experience in Dubai
The University of Birmingham Dubai and Amity University have signed an agreement that will enhance the learning experience for Birmingham’s engineering students in the UAE.
Birmingham is the first global top 100 and UK elite Russell Group university to establish a campus in Dubai. The agreement gives its engineering students immediate access to a range of high-quality equipment including mechanical testing, fluid mechanics and analogue/digital electrical testing equipment.
Students enrolled at the new campus, which opens in September, will experience degrees taught and examined to the same recognised high standards as those delivered on the University of Birmingham’s UK campus.
University of Birmingham Dubai Provost Professor Glyn Watson said: “We have welcomed the brightest students from across the globe to the University of Birmingham for more than 100 years and are proud to be bringing our world-class British education to Dubai.
“Engineering is one of the most popular subject choices in the UAE and we are committed to providing the best possible learning experience for our students in Dubai. We are delighted to work with Amity University to provide high-quality laboratory facilities.
“Birmingham is a global civic university and we want to contribute to UAE society – playing our part in supporting the Vision 2021 education goals.”
The University of Birmingham Dubai offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes including Business, Economics, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, and Primary and Secondary Teacher Education with further programmes to be offered subsequently.
Successful applicants will join a global university, which counts 11 Nobel Prize winners among its former staff and students. Students will be taught by outstanding academics; experts in their fields who are shaping policy, influencing society, and changing lives.
Amity University Dubai Pro Vice Chancellor Dr. Narayanan Ramachandran said: “Amity University Dubai is committed to working collaboratively across the Higher Education sector in the UAE. Our partnership with Birmingham University in Dubai is testament to the cooperation needed to support Vision 2021 and the development of the education landscape in the UAE.”
Opening its Dubai campus marks the latest phase in the University of Birmingham’s global ambitions and builds on the University’s international teaching activities in Singapore and China, and its extensive international research collaborations.
Following approval by the Dubai Government’s Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), which is responsible for the growth and quality of education, the University of Birmingham Dubai will provide opportunities for students to study on a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
The University of Birmingham Dubai is located in Dubai International Academic City (DIAC), a leading international education hub with 26 universities.
