Role of Emiratisation Highlighted at AIESEC Leadership Forum 2010 in Careers UAE
April 1, 2010

Dubai : 31/03/2010 - Dubai International Academic City (DIAC) announced more than 200 Emirati students, from seven UAE universities, participated in a forum on Emiratisation to highlight the challenges faced by youth in the UAE.

Dr Ayoub Kazim, Executive Director, Dubai Knowledge Village and Dubai International Academic City, members of TECOM Investments, led the discussion titled ‘Emiratisation – should it be part of CSR?’ at the AIESEC Leadership Forum. The event was organised in partnership with the 10th annual Careers UAE fair, held from 28-30 March at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.

AIESEC is the world’s largest student-based association spanning 110 countries. Its activities enable members to develop competencies and skills in personal and professional activities, while facilitating global consciousness through our global learning platform.

The forum in Dubai provided a platform for the youth to voice their concerns to government, industry and private sector specialists. The consensus was that Emiratisation is more a national duty than corporate social responsibility
Dr Kazim said: “A company’s commitment to Emiratisation cannot be complete by just recruiting UAE nationals. It should invest in training and development of Emiratis to integrate them into mainstream workforce. Such initiatives alone will help engage them more in the company’s growth.”

The forum also discussed other relevant issues such as ‘Education for the private sector’ led by Seher Saleem Human Capital Manager for the Middle East, PricewaterhouseCooper; ‘Empowerment and Career Progression’ led by Stella Grancheva-Al Najjar Ex-President of AIESEC-UAE; ‘Entrepreneurship and Leadership’ led by Professor Dwight Anthony, Lecturer at Dubai Women’s College; and ‘Unemployment and Labour Mobility’ led by Abdul Muttalib Al Hashimi, CEO of Next Level Management Consultancy.

In the UAE, AIESEC focuses on the leadership development and cultural awareness at universities through participating and facilitating a Global Internship Programme.

Since 2005, AIESEC in the UAE has been strongly supported by Dubai Knowledge Village, and now Dubai International Academic City as a Founder Partner of the National Office of AIESEC-UAE. The current membership of the organization diversifies across many institutions of higher education.
