We are a leading UK university with 14,000 students at our campuses in Exeter and Cornwall, research income of £34m a year and a network of 58,000 alumni across 150 countries. In the National Student Survey we have been ranked in the top 10 for student satisfaction for the last three years.

About the Middle East Office

The University has a long history of friendship and collaborative scholarship with the Middle East region. It has numerous very distinguished alumni from the region, including most notably His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohamed Al Qasimi, UAE Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.

MEO was established in Dubai in 2006 as a clear signal of the University's intention to further develop its international outreach activities.

The University of Exeter is home to the prestigious Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies and as long ago as 1984, the University's high status and reputation in the Arab world was recognized by the late HH Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum in a generous gift to the University Library of £750,000

The University is justly proud of its many very distinguished alumni from the Middle East region. At doctoral level, UAE alumni include His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and His Excellency Dr Mohammed Khalfan bin Kharbash, UAE Minister of State for Financial and Industrial Affairs, and Dr Sulaiman Al Jassim Vice-President of Zayed University.

Our goal

MEO’s goal is to provide a base in the Middle East to enable the University to expand its business activities in that region in a way that is:

  • Responsive to stakeholder needs
  • Relevant to the University’s own strategic plan
  • Responsible in terms of society and the environment

  • To facilitate the offering of University programmes and courses in the Middle East
  • To provide local support for students based in the Middle East following University courses and programmes
  • To represent the University at educational exhibitions and recruitment missions within the region
  • To build links with regional businesses and government organisations and to support them with Continuing Professional Development activities
  • To maintain and strengthen the University’s relationships with representatives of Governments within the region.

Programmes Offered in Dubai

Doctor of Education (EdD) in TESOL

  • The degree of Doctor of Education (EdD) aims to provide experienced senior professionals within the field of language teaching with an opportunity to study at advanced level for a doctoral degree by means of a taught course plus a thesis. The EdD in TESOL involves an in-depth examination of issues related to language learning and teaching and language teacher education. It also provides a solid grounding in research methodology appropriate for undertaking research at doctoral level within these fields.
  • The program is suitable for experienced teachers of language who which to enhance their careers, education officials, and those concerned with the training and supervision of language teachers and the organization of teacher training programs at pre-service levels. Entry requires a Master’s degree in TEFL, TESOL, applied linguistics or a related field, together with at least three years of relevant professional experience.
