Profile:

The British University in Dubai (BUiD) founded in 2003 is the first research-based, postgraduate university in the Middle East. It is a non-profit organisation with a mission to provide world-class scholarship, education and research that make a distinctive British contribution to supporting the aspirations of the Dubai Government and the UAE to become a hub for education and research in the region.

The University has received Institutional Licensure from the UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MoHE&SR). All of its programmes have received Initial Accreditation Status from the MoHE&SR.

UK Partners

BUiD’s mission has been achieved by providing exceptionally high standards of teaching and research and through maintaining close connections with the highest research rated departments in selected universities in the UK - all 5 or 5-star research rated in the relevant field. Currently BUiD has ties through bilateral agreements with the following British universities:

These agreements benefit students by providing access to world-class academic staff and facilities as well as opportunities for students to visit the UK. Admissions

Applicants for admission should have a good undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline and be able to demonstrate proficiency in English Language. Programme specific requirements may also apply.

Scholarships

BUiD is pleased to be able to offer a large number of scholarships for study at the University. These scholarships cover between 50% and 75% of the tuition fees. A large number of these scholarships have been provided by organisations which have links to BUiD. Examples of such organisations include the Emirates Group, DUCAB, Dubai Duty Free, DUGAS, Atkins, Hyder Consulting, Deyaar and the Emirates Foundation. 

Student Services

The University provides a range of services designed to make student life as enjoyable and as productive as possible, not only academically but also socially and culturally. Counselling services and careers guidance are available by appointment for registered students.

Library and IT Facilities

The University has a multimedia library collection in support of the teaching and research needs of students and staff. In addition students have online access to a wide variety of databases and other resources comparable to those available in the UK partner universities. All the staff is professionally qualified and available to support students in their research. Study support workshops are also available to all students.

The University has a wireless campus and students may use their own laptops to connect to the network. There are also two Labs, with specialist software installed, which are needed for some of the more advanced research.

Faculty

BUiD faculty includes scholars recognised for their teaching and research expertise in their respective fields. Staff members are involved in research projects at international and national levels and publish in appropriate outlets. Research strengths are utilised in teaching at module level in our Masters programmes so that students leave the University with a high-quality research informed education.

Research

All BUiD’s Faculties give a high priority to original research, providing the student body with the support of experts and facilities they need to make progress in the pursuit of new knowledge and ideas. What makes BUiD unique in the region is its support for cutting-edge research, and the degree to which it has been successful in attracting experienced researchers from around the world to join its academic community. In collaboration with its UK partner universities and through participation in international research conferences BUiD is developing its reputation in areas of research that will make a difference in the region.

Students in all disciplines are involved in research with many preparing papers for publication in journals and books. Several students have had papers accepted for presentation at national and international conferences.

Achievements:

BUiD continues to support UAE’s vision of knowledge based economy by imparting education of highest standards and moulding its students to be leaders of tomorrow. It is the first private University comprising 52% UAE National students and the rest from 32 different nationalities.

BUiD has been successful in positioning itself as one of the leading research-based academic institutions in the Middle East. In a recent initiative, it has dedicated a total of more than AED 3 million in the form of materials, equipment and academic staff time for a variety of research projects, focused on the challenges specific to the UAE and the region.

BUiD has been successful in attracting two major international conferences CCIM 2006 and IAMOT 2008.

BUiD has launched a series of HR workshops under the title “HRM in Practice” with the aim of discussing various HR related issues of the region. It also conducts open lectures by some of the highly regarded Academics of its UK partner Universities at its campus in Knowledge Village.
